Amy Langer
CPA, Inactive Certificate
Co-Founder
Recruited by KPMG out of college, Langer later rose through the ranks of a high-profile international professional placement firm to become National Business Development Director. Traveling to two or three cities a week – often every week – she had an epiphany, "the more I worked in professional services, the more I realized everyone had the same cards, the same websites, the same offices. But the people part of it seemed to be missing."
At NumberWorks, "the people part" lies at the heart of its business model. Langer and John Folkestad diligently strive to serve two sets of clients: Candidates with their own career objectives and personal goals looking for project or contract work – and companies in need of filling staffing positions that are often crucial to their operations and success.
Understanding the playing field and what companies really need is expertise Langer gained first-hand from her fast-track history within the industry. "Our success to date relies on how well we know the field, the stars who work in it, and the ongoing – and sometimes immediate – needs of companies who require professional ‘plug-and-play' temporary help for a special project," notes Langer. Like NumberWorks candidates, challenge motivates NumberWorks co-founder, Langer, too.
Amy is active in Women Presidents’ Organization (WPO), Financial Executive International (FEI) and the Michigan State University Alumni Association (MSU). She also serves on the Board of Washburn Child Guidance Center, which works with children and their families to help children function better at home, in school and in their communities.
Amy was recognized as a 2005 “Emerging Business Owner of the Year” and the 2004 “Woman to Watch,” awarded by The Business Journal. She and co-founder John Folkestad were 2005 and 2006 finalists in the Ernst & Young “Entrepreneurs of the Year” awards. Amy and John were named winners of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award 2006 – Emerging for the Minnesota and Dakotas Region.
